Flu and Covid Vaccinations – for Adults

We will be offering flu and Covid vaccinations for eligible patients registered at Stow Surgery, from the Stow Surgery building this Autumn.

Eligible patients are those who are:

  • Adults aged 65 years and over
  • Residents in a care home for older adults
  • Individuals aged 6 months to 64 years in a clinical risk group
  • Frontline NHS and social care workers, and those working in care homes for older people

We are currently awaiting confirmation of a delivery date for the Covid vaccines but are anticipating running clinics on Saturdays 5th and 12th October.

Please DO NOT contact the surgery to book an appointment currently; we will be in touch shortly.

Invitations will be sent by text message initially, so please ensure that we have your up-to-date mobile number.

Flu Vaccinations for Children and Pregnant Women

We are expecting to receive vaccines for children and pregnant women by 16th September. Appointments are available to book now.

We can vaccinate children who are aged 2 and 3 on 31/8/2024 and those in clinical “at risk” groups at the surgery. All other eligible children will receive the vaccination at school.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

The RSV vaccination is now available for patients aged 75 to 79 years and pregnant ladies.

RSV is an infectious disease of the airways and lungs. RSV infection often causes symptoms similar to a cold, including:

  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Sneezing
  • A runny or blocked nose

It can also make you become wheezy or short of breath and lead to pneumonia and other life-threatening conditions. There is no specific treatment, and most infections will get better by themselves. Every year, thousands of older adults need hospital care for RSV, and some of them will die. RSV can be more severe in people with medical conditions such as heart or lung disease or a weakened immune system.

If you haven’t yet made an appointment, please contact the surgery on 01451 830625.

Are You Going to Uni? Know Someone Who Is?

Please share this information with them.

“Fresher” students going to university for the first time should make sure they’ve had the MenACWY vaccine to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, which can be deadly. This is normally given in school years 9 or 10, but if you missed out, please make an appointment to have it at the surgery.

More information on the MenACWY vaccine

MMR Vaccine

As there have been outbreaks of mumps and measles at universities, if you haven’t previously had 2 doses of the MMR vaccine, please give us a call to arrange this.

The NHS app is intended for use by anyone age 16 and over. It enables you to book appointments, view your medical record, and order repeat prescriptions.

Sexual Health

There will be plenty of information about this available at uni, but if you want to have a conversation before you go or want some advice about contraception, we have set up some special sexual health clinics with one of our nurses. Advice is completely confidential, and appointments can either be face-to-face or over the telephone. Appointments are available to book online or over the telephone.
